Located in the upper reaches of the Yangzi River and the hinterland of Southwest China, Sichuan province, the land of abundance, shares its border with 7 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in West China and covers an area of 485,000 square kilometers, the fifth largest province in China. It also has jurisdiction over 21 cities (autonomous prefectures) and 181 counties (towns and prefecture-level cities). Being an important junction in Southwest China, Northwest China and Central China, Sichuan serves as an important intersection and transport corridor for South and North China, Southwest and Northwest China as well as Central Asia, Southern Asia and Southeast Asia. The equipment manufacturing industry has a good foundation and strong strength, including new energy equipment, energy saving equipment, municipal solid waste disposal equipment, flue gas desulfurization and denitrification equipment, heavy machinery and container equipment, large metallurgical equipment, construction machinery, rail transportation equipment, oil and gas drilling and transport and mining equipment, aerospace equipment, intelligent manufacturing equipment, heavy castings and forgings, key infrastructure components and automobile and auto parts. The output of thermal power, hydropower and nuclear power in the field of power generation equipment has ranked first in the world for 12 consecutive years. Nearly 100 enterprises with international competitiveness including Dongfang Electric Corporation, China National Erzhong Group Co., Sichuan Air Separation Group and Sichuan Honghua Petroleum Equipment Co., Ltd., have become an important support for economic development in Sichuan. The gross industrial output value of Sichuan's machinery and equipment manufacturing industry was CNY 809 billion in 2016 and it has ranked first in China and the first in the west for many years.

Chengdu, the capital of the province, is not only the science and technology, trade and financial center and transportation and communication hub of Southwest china, but also China's important high-tech industrial base, trade logistics center and important central city in the western region. Furthermore, it is the political, economic, cultural and educational center of Sichuan Province and a famous historical and cultural city of China. By the end of 2016, Chengdu had a total area of 14312 km² and a population of 15.918 million. The urban built-up area has reached 837.3 km² with an urbanization rate of 70.6%.
